BI Analyst

Department: Partner Initiatives
Location: Portland, OR

General Summary:

Vetsource is seeking a qualified BI Analyst to join our Business Intelligence team. This position will be responsible for help desk functions as well as designing and developing business intelligence solutions, reports, and dashboards. Partnering with other departments across the organization, this role will use analytics to empower internal and external stakeholders to successfully harness and use data to drive favorable outcomes and excellence.

Essential Duties:

  • Deliver BI solutions against data warehouse and transactional data sources, employing data visualization tools, scorecards, Python/R, Alteryx, and other toolsets.
  • Support a busy Help Desk, translating sometimes complex business requirements from multiple departments into key reporting for internal and external customers.
  • Ability to manage and/or participate in small to medium projects with stakeholders. This includes identifying and meeting milestones and deadlines.
  • Engage in close intra/inter-team communications, demonstrating a thorough understanding of a project’s technical and business requirements.
  • Comfort level sharing work for critique in a small team setting. A consistent willingness to help when and where needed. Willingness to work after hours to complete important projects.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Solid knowledge of relational databases, database structure/design and SQL development.
  • Entry to mid-level technical skills in one or more of the following: SAS, Alteryx, R, Python, SPSS, Java.
  • Strong experience with one or more data visualization toolsets such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, SSRS, Chartio, etc.
  • SAP Business Objects or Cognos development experience.
  • Versatile and strong skills at collection and analysis of complex data, both narrative and statistical, including broad experience with multiple reporting tools.
  • High attention to detail with continual testing of results for reasonableness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Ability to consistently evaluate work for impact/benefit to organization.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively listen, communicate, and present complex information to stakeholders in a clear, calm, and concise manner.
  • Proven skill at complex/creative problem solving and a willingness to consistently take on new challenges
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work independently and within a team
  • Self-motivated and creative with a strong desire to learn new products and technologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and handle stress in a calm and constructive manner.
  • Highly customer focused, and solutions driven.


Supervisory Responsibilities:   None


  • BA/BS in Computer Engineering, Statistics, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Econometrics or other quantitative disciplines, or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of experience in BI/Data analytics design and implementation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Python, R or SPSS development skills
  • Alteryx Designer experience

Working Conditions

  • Environment where dogs are present
  • Normally quiet to moderate noise level
  • Working at a computer for long periods of time
